Content of the pack and further information
1. What is calcium-sandoz d osteo and what is it used for?
Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo is a calcium vitamin D3 priority.
Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo is used:
to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiency.
as a vitamin D and calcium supplement to support specific therapy for the treatment of osteoporosis and to prevent osteoporosis.
If you don't feel better or worse, contact your doctor.
2. What should you consider before taking calcium-sandoz d osteo?
Calcium-Sandoz d osteo must not be taken:
if you are allergic to calcium, colecalciferol or one of the other components of this medicine mentioned in section 6.
If calcium concentrations are too high in the blood (hypercalcaemia) and/or increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalcuria).
In the case of diseases and/or conditions that lead to an increased calcium content in the blood (hypercalcaemia) and/or increased calcium excretion in urine (e.g. hypercalcary) (e.g. overfunction of the side thyroid glands, an illness of the bone marrow [myeloma], a malignant bone tumor [bone metastasis ]).
if you are affected by a serious impairment of kidney function or kidney failure.
in kidney stones (nephrolithiasis).
for kidney tissue calculation (nephrocalcinosis).
If vitamin D levels (hypervitaminosis d).
Warnings and precautions:
Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking calcium-sandoz d osteo.
During long-term treatment with calcium-sandoz d osteo, your doctor must check the calcium level in the blood and monitor the kidney function by measuring the serum creatinine value. Monitoring is particularly important in older patients who also receive certain medicines that increase heartpeaters (herzhousy glycosides) or diuretic medicines (diuretics) (see & quot, taking calcium-sandoz d osteo together with other drugs & quot,). This also applies if you have a pronounced tendency to form stone formation. If hypercalcaemia occurs (too high calcium concentrations in the blood) or signs of kidney dysfunction, the dose must be reduced or taking calcium-sandoz osteo. It is advisable to reduce the dose or to temporarily interrupt the treatment if the calcium content in the urine exceeds 7.5 mmol/24 hours (300 mg/24 hours).
If you suffer from a kidney dysfunction, calcium-sandoz d osteo is careful to use the calcium and phosphate level. The risk of calcification of the soft tissues must be taken into account. In the case of severe kidney dysfunction, vitamin D in the form of Colecalciferol is not normally metabolized. Your doctor must therefore prescribe another vitamin D preparation (see & quot, calcium-sandoz d osteo must not be taken & quot,).
There are literary reports that indicate that citrate salts may lead to increased aluminum absorption. Calcium-Sandoz D osteo contains citronic acid. If you have a severely restricted kidney function and take aluminum-containing preparations, you should therefore consult your doctor before taking calcium-sandoz d osteo.
If you suffer from a certain lung disease (sarcoidosis), there is a risk of increased conversion of vitamin D into its effective form. The calcium level in blood and urine should be monitored.
If you suffer from immobilization osteoporosis (bone loss after a longer complete immobilization of limbs), there is an increased risk of the occurrence of hypercalcemia (too high calcium concentrations in the blood).
If you are prescribed other vitamin D preparations at the same time, your doctor should take into account the dose of 400 i.e. vitamin D3 per effervescent tablet given with calcium-sandoz d osteo. Additional intake of other calcium or vitamin D containing preparations should only be carried out under a close-meshed medical supervision. In these cases, regular monitoring of calcium levels in blood and urine is required.
When taking calcium-sandoz d osteo, the calcium and alkali intake (e.g. carbonates) from other sources (food, enriched food or other medicines) should be observed. If high doses of calcium are taken at the same time as carbonates, this can lead to a milk alkali syndrome (burnett syndrome). Milk alkaline syndrome is a calcium metabolism disorder with an increase in calcium levels in the blood (hypercalcaemia), the ignorance of the blood (metabolic alkalosis), kidney failure and soft tissue calcification. It can be triggered by absorbing very large amounts of milk and/or calcium carbonate from other sources or by excessive use of antacids (agent against stomach acidification). When taking high doses, the calcium level should be checked in blood and urine.
Children and adolescents:
Calcium-Sandoz d osteo is not intended for taking children and adolescents.
Taking calcium-sandoz d osteo together with other pharmaceuticals:
inform your doctor or pharmacist if you take/use other medicines, recently taken/use other medicines to take/use other medicines.
Thiazid diuretics lead to a reduction in calcium excretion in the urine. Due to the increased risk of increased calcium content in the blood (hypercalcemia), it is recommended to regularly monitor calcium blood level while using thiazide diuretics.
Systemic corticosteroids (funds to suppress immune defense and with certain inflammation) reduce calcium intake. During a simultaneous application, it may be necessary to increase the dose of calcium-sandoz d osteo.
The simultaneous treatment with orlistat (a medicine for weight reduction), ion exchanger resins such as colestyramine or laxatives such as paraffin oil can reduce gastrointestinal intake of vitamin D. It should be kept at least 2 hours to calcium-sandoz d osteo, otherwise the absorption of calcium-sandoz d osteo is reduced.
The intake and thus also the effectiveness of certain antibiotics (tetracycline) can be reduced by simultaneous taking calcium-sandoz d osteo. For this reason, tetracycline-containing medicines should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after taking calcium-sandoz d osteo.
The absorption of aluminum and bismutal salts and thus also their toxicity are increased by the citric acid contained in calcium-sandoz d osteo. There should usually be a distance of at least 2 hours between taking calcium-sandoz d osteo and taking aluminum and bum salts.
With simultaneous treatment with certain drugs that increase the heartfelt (herzous glycosides), their toxicity can increase due to hypercalcemia. For this reason, patients who receive stubborn glycosides, with the help of the electrocardiogram (EKG) and by determining the calcium content in the blood, must be monitored by a doctor.
With simultaneous treatment with bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride preparations (medicinal products for the treatment of osteoporosis) or fluorchinolons (a certain antibiotic type), this should be at least 3 hours before calcium sando osteo due to the risk of a limited absorption of these medicinal products in the magendar tract to be taken.
rifampicin (an antibiotic), phenytoin (a medication against epilepsy) and barbiturates (medication that helps you to sleep) can affect the effect of vitamin D3.
Calcium can reduce the absorption of iron, zinc and strontium ranelate as well as from scoty (a medication used in chemotherapy) and reduce thyroid hormones. Therefore, please take medicinal products that contain iron, zinc, strontium ranelate, screens or thyroid hormones at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking calcium-sandoz osteo.
Taking calcium-sandoz d osteo together with food and drinks:
oxalic acid (contained in spinach and rhubarb) and phytine acid (contained in whole grain products) can inhibit the calcium absorption by forming insoluic connections with calcium ions. After consumption of food with a high content of oxal or phytic acid, you should not take calcium-containing medicines for 2 hours.
pregnancy and lactation:
If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.
pregnancy:
calcium-sandoz d osteo can be taken during pregnancy if there is a calcium and vitamin D lack. During pregnancy, the daily intake should not exceed 1,500 mg calcium and 600 i.E. vitamin D3. Animal studies have shown high doses of vitamin D. Overdoses of calcium and vitamin D must be avoided in pregnant women, since a permanently increased calcium level in the blood has been associated with undesirable effects to the developing fetus (physical and mental developmental delay, special forms of aortic female [supravalvular aortic stenosis] and retinous diseases [retinopathy] ). There is no evidence that vitamin D in therapeutic doses in humans has a mistake (teratogen).
Still-time:
Calcium-Sandoz d osteo can be taken during breastfeeding. Calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk. This must be taken into account if the child receives additional gifts of vitamin D.
Road and ability to use machines:
There is no data on the influence of this drug on traffic. It cannot be ruled out that the unusual fatigue or weakness that occurs during the very rarely rarely occurring milk alkaline syndrome could have an impact on the roadworthiness and the ability to use machines.
Calcium-Sandoz d osteo contains sucrose, sorbitol and sodium:
Please only take calcium-sandoz d osteo after consultation with your doctor if you know that you suffer from intolerance to certain sugar. Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo can be harmful to the teeth. This medicine contains a maximum of 50 mg Sorbitol Pro effervescent tablet. This medicine contains 52 mg sodium (main component of table salt/dining salt) per effervescent tablet. This corresponds to 2.6 % of the maximum daily sodium absorption with food recommended for an adult. If you have to adhere to a salt arm of diet, you should take this into account.
3. How can Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo be taken?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this package insert or take precisely after instruction from your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
adults take 1-2 effervescent tablets daily (corresponding to 600 - 1,200 mg calcium and 400 - 800 i.E. vitamin D3). 1 break in pregnancy 1 times a day (see also section 2 under "pregnancy and lactation"). Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo is not intended for taking children and adolescents. With limited liver function, no dose adjustment is required. Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo must not be taken by patients with severe kidney dysfunction.
Type of application:
to dissolve in water. The effervescent tablet is to be dissolved in a glass of water (approx. 200 ml) and taken directly.
Duration of the application:
The duration of the application is determined by the doctor (see also section 2 "warnings and precautions"). Please follow your doctor's instructions.
If you have taken a larger amount of calcium-sandoz d osteo than you should:
overdosing can go to appetite, nausea, vomiting, increased thirst and increased fluid intake, excessive urine excretion, dehydration, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness , Exhaustion, mental disorders, bone pain, limescale deposits in the kidneys and kidney stones. In severe cases, cardiac arrhythmia can occur. Persistent high calcium levels can lead to irreversible kidney damage and calcification of the soft tissues. Chronic overdose can lead to vascular and organ calcification. If you suspect overdose, please inform your doctor immediately. This may take the necessary measures.
If you have forgotten the intake of calcium-sandoz d osteo:
don't take twice the amount if you have forgotten the prior intake.
If you cancel the intake of calcium-sandoz d osteo:
If you interrupt the treatment or end the intake prematurely, you must expect that the desired effect does not occur or the symptoms reinforce. Therefore, please consult your doctor if you want to end or interrupt the treatment.
If you have any further questions about taking this medicine, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

mode of action
How do the ingredients of the drug work?
calcium ions are of crucial importance in the activation of biological systems. A lack of calcium in the blood increases, but an excess reduces neuromuscular excitability. Oral calcium intake promotes the remineralization of the skeleton of calcium deficiency.colecalciferol is physiological vitamin D3, which is converted into the kidney and liver to calcitriol, the effective substance of the vitamin D3. Calcitriol is responsible for taking the calcium and phosphate from the intestine. The recovery of the calcium and its resumption from the kidney vitamin D are also dependent. The substance promotes the mineralization of the bones and thus inhibits their dismantling.
