1. What is calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive and what is it used for?
Calcium-Sandoz D osteo intenses contains the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3 and is a calcium vitamin D3 preparation.
calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive is used:
for prophylaxis and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency in older people.
as calcium and vitamin D supplement for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis (bone loss).
2. What should you consider before taking calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive?
calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive must not be taken:
if you are allergic to calcium, vitamin D3, benzyl alcohol or one of the other components of this medicine mentioned in section 6.
with increased calcium blood levels (hypercalcaemia).
In the case of increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalcuria).
If you suffer from an overfunction of the parathyroid gland (hyperparathyroidism).
for bone marks cancer (myeloma).
If you suffer from cancer that radiates on your bones (bone metastases).
If the limbs (extended immobilization) are immobilized for a long time, accompanied by hypercalcemia and/or hypercalcuria.
in kidney stones (nephrolithiasis).
for calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis).

Long-term therapy: During long-term therapy, the calcium levels must be in Blood and urine as well as their kidney function are monitored regularly. This is particularly important if you tend to form kidney stones. If necessary, your doctor can reduce the dose or interrupt the treatment, depending on your blood levels.
Simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides or thiazid diuretics (diuretic agents) due to heart problems: In this case, calcium levels in blood and urine and their kidney function must be monitored regularly, especially in older patients. If necessary, your doctor can reduce the dose or interrupt the treatment, depending on your blood levels.
kidney problems: If you have kidney problems, you can only take calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive with special caution, especially if you also take aluminum-containing products, since the citric acid in calcium-sandoz d osteo can intensify the absorption of aluminum. Your calcium levels in blood and urine must be monitored. In the case of serious kidney problems, take other forms of vitamin D instead of Colecalciferol.
Additional calcium and vitamin D nutritional supplements: Medical control is necessary and a regular review of calcium levels in blood and urine is required by your doctor.
Sarcoidosis (a disease of the immune system that can affect your liver, lungs, skin or lymph nodes): take calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive with special care if you suffer from sarcoidosis. There is a risk that this medicine is too effective and can lead to an overdose of calcium in the body. The calcium levels in blood and urine must be monitored.
Patients with immobilization osteoporosis: In this case, this medicine must be used with special caution, since the calcium level can rise in your blood.
Children and adolescents:
Calcium-Sandoz d osteo intensive must not be taken by children and adolescents under the age of 18 (see section "Calcium-Sandoz d osteo intensive must not be taken").
Taking calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive together with other medicines:
inform your doctor or pharmacist if you take/use other medicines, have recently taken or intend other medicines, to take/use other medicines.
while treatment with digitalis glycosides (heart glycosides from the thimble), cardiac arrhythmia can occur. Strict medical control including ECG examination and control of the calcium blood level is therefore required.
With the simultaneous administration of diuretics from the fabric group of thiazides (diuretic agents), the calcium level in the blood should be checked regularly, since thiazides restrict the excretion of calcium with the urine.
The absorption and thus the effectiveness of certain antibiotics (so-called tetracycline) are reduced by the simultaneous administration of calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive. These medicines should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 - 6 hours after calcium -sandoz d osteo intensive.
In addition, interactions with other drugs, such as sodium fluoride (to harden tooth enamel or to treat osteoporosis), fluorchinolone antibiotics and bisphosphonates (for the treatment of osteoporosis), can occur. These preparations should therefore be taken at least 3 hours before calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive.
Between the administration of Colestyramine (drug for reducing increased cholesterol), orlistat (medicines for the treatment of obesity) or laxatives, such as paraffin oil, and calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive should be adhered to as long as possible, since vitamin D otherwise cannot be accepted correctly.
The simultaneous administration of calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive and rifampicin, phenytoin (a preparation for the treatment of epilepsy) or barbiturate (sleeping pills) can lead to a reduced effect of vitamin D.
The simultaneous administration of calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive and glucocorticoids (e.g. cortisone) can lead to a reduced effect of vitamin D and to reduce calcium levels in the blood.
The additional intake of calcium and vitamin D should only be carried out under medical supervision and requires a regular check of calcium levels in blood and urine.
calcium can reduce the absorption of iron, zinc and strontium ranelate. So take these medicines at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking calcium-sandoz d osteo.
Calcium can reduce the absorption of estramust (a medication used in chemotherapy) and thyroid hormones (for the treatment of a thyroid hormone lack). So take these medicines at least 2 hours after taking calcium-sandoz d osteo.
Taking calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive together with food, drinks and alcohol:
Please note that oxalic acid (e.g. contained in spinach and rhubarb) and phytic acid (e.g. contained in whole grain products) the calcium intake in the intestine can reduce. Before and after eating food with a high content of oxal or phytic acid, you should not take calcium-containing medicines for 2 hours.
pregnancy and lactation:
If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.
pregnancy:
If you are pregnant, you can take calcium-sandoz d osteo intensely in the event of a calcium and vitamin D lack. The daily dose of 1/2 chewing tablet must not be exceeded. During pregnancy, the daily dose of calcium should not be higher than 1,500 mg and the daily dose of vitamin D3 not higher than 600 i.E. Long -term overdose of calcium and vitamin D during pregnancy must be avoided, since this can lead to high calcium levels in the blood and have negative effects on the unborn child.
Still-time:
calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive can be used during breastfeeding. Since calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk, first consult with your doctor whether your child already receives vitamin D containing preparations.
Road and ability to use machines:
calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive has no influence on the ability to drive and the ability to use machines.
calcium-sandoz d osteo intenses contains sodium, aspartame, sorbitol, isomalt, sucrose and benzyl alcohol:
This medicinal product contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium pro-tablet, i.e. it is almost "sodium-free". This medicine contains 1.00 mg aspartame per chewing tablet. Aspartam is a source for phenylalanine. It can be harmful if you have a phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare congenital disease in which phenylalanine accumulates because the body cannot dismantle it sufficiently. This medicine contains 152.89 mg Sorbitol Pro chewing tablet. It also contains isomalt and sucrose. Please only take this medicine after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from intolerance to certain sugar. Calcium-Sandoz d osteo intensive can be harmful to the teeth (caries). This medicine contains 0.02 mg benzyl alcohol per chewing tablet. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you suffer from a liver or kidney disease, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice, as large amounts of benzyl alcohol can be enriched in your body (so-called "metabolic acidosis").
3. How can calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive be taken?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this package insert or take precisely after instruction from your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and older people take 1 chewing tablet daily (according to 1,000 mg calcium and 880 IE. [International units] vitamin D3). Pregnant women only take 1/2 chewing tablets daily (corresponding to 500 mg calcium and 440 I.E. [International units] vitamin D3). The daily dose of ^ chewing tablet must not be exceeded.
Application in children and adolescents:
calcium-sandoz d osteo intensive must not be taken by children and adolescents under the age of 18 (see section 2 "Calcium-Sandoz d osteo intensive must not be taken").
Type of application:

4. What side effects are possible?

nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, feeling of fullness.
rash, itching, hives.
not known (frequency not estimated based on the available data):
vomiting.
If your kidney function is restricted, the risk of developing high blood phosphate levels, calcium deposits in the kidneys and kidney stones is increased. Benzyl alcohol can cause allergic reactions.

The active ingredients are calcium and colecalciferol (vitamin D3). 1 chewing tablet contains 1,000 mg calcium (as calcium carbonate) and 22 micrograms Colecalciferol (vitamin D3, corresponding to 880 I.E. as Colecalciferol dry concentrate). The other components are: isomalt (Ph.Eur.), Xylitol, Sorbitol (Ph.Eur.), Citronic acid, sodium dihydrogencitrate, magnesium stearate (ph. CPB "and orange aroma" CVT "(contain both sorbitol [Ph.Eur.]), Aspartam, Acesulfam potassium, sodium ascorbate, all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, starch, modified (maize), sucrose, medium-chain triglycerides and high-disperses silicon dioxide. The orange aroma "CPB" contains benzyl alcohol as part of the natural/natural -identical orange oil.
