  1. WHAT NEUROBION N FORTE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
  2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE NEUROBION N FORTE?
  3. HOW TO TAKE NEUROBION N FORTE?
  4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?
  5. HOW TO STORE NEUROBION N FORTE?
  6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. WHAT NEUROBION N FORTE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Neurobion N forte is a vitamin B1 + B6 preparation against neurological diseases. It is to be used in neurological system diseases due to a proven deficiency of vitamins B1 and B6.

2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE NEUROBION N FORTE?

Neurobion N forte must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to any of the active ingredients or other ingredients of Neurobion N forte.

Particular caution is required when taking Neurobion N forte:
Vitamin B6 can cause neuropathies even in daily doses of 50 mg or more over a long period of time (months to years). If signs of peripheral sensory neuropathy appear (abnormal sensations mainly in the hands and feet), the doctor treating you should be consulted. This medicine contains sucrose (sugar) and lactose. Therefore, please only take Neurobion N forte after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

Taking Neurobion N forte with other medicines:
Therapeutic doses of vitamin B6 can reduce the effects of the antiparkinson drug LDopa. The simultaneous administration of so-called pyridoxine antagonists (medicines which, among other things, have an effect directed against vitamin B6, such as hydralazine, isoniazid (INH), cycloserine, D-penicillamine) can increase the need for vitamin B6. Neurobion N forte loses its effect if the cancer drug (cytostatic) 5-fluoro-ouracil is administered at the same time. Gastric acid inhibitors reduce the absorption of vitamin B1. Long-term treatment with the diuretic furosemide can lead to a vitamin B1 deficiency because more vitamin B1 is excreted in the urine. Please note that this information may also apply to recently used medicines. Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Taking Neurobion N forte together with food and drink:
Alcohol and black tea reduce the absorption of vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 can be broken down and become ineffective if you drink sulfite-containing beverages, such as wine.

Pregnancy and breast feeding period:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the recommended daily intake for vitamin B1 is 1.4 - 1.6 mg and for vitamin B6 2.4 - 2.6 mg. These dosages may only be exceeded during pregnancy if the patient has a proven vitamin B1 and B6 deficiency. Systematic studies on the use of vitamins B1 and B6 are not available. The doctor treating you should therefore only decide to use this preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding after careful benefit/risk assessment. High doses of vitamin B6 can inhibit milk production. Vitamin B1 and vitamin B6 pass into breast milk.

Driving and using machines:
There are no special precautions required.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Neurobion N forte:
This medicine contains sucrose (sugar) and lactose. Therefore, please only take Neurobion N forte after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

3. HOW TO TAKE NEUROBION N FORTE?

Always take Neurobion N forte exactly as directed in this leaflet. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Unless otherwise prescribed, adults take one coated Neurobion N forte tablet once a day. In the case of a manifest, proven deficiency, the dose can be increased to one coated tablet up to 3 times a day after consultation with the doctor treating you.

How and when should you take Neurobion N forte?
The coated tablets are swallowed whole with sufficient liquid (eg 1 glass of water) with or after meals.

How long should you take Neurobion N forte?
After 4 weeks at the latest, the attending physician should decide whether the administration of vitamin B6 and vitamin B1 in the high concentration present here is still indicated. If necessary, one should switch to a preparation with a lower active ingredient strength in order to reduce the risk of neuropathy associated with vitamin B6.

If you take more Neurobion N forte than you should:
Long-term use (months to years) of vitamin B6 in doses above 50 mg/day and short-term use (2 months) of doses above 1g/day can lead to neurotoxic effects (see Warnings). An overdose is essentially manifested by sensory polyneuropathy, possibly with ataxia. Extremely high doses can result in convulsions. If acute doses in excess of 150 mg/kg body weight have been ingested, induced emesis and administration of activated charcoal are recommended. Vomiting is most effective within the first 30 minutes after ingestion. If necessary, intensive care measures are required. High doses of vitamin B6 during breastfeeding can inhibit milk production. If physical symptoms occur, you should consult a doctor.

If you forget to take Neurobion N forte:
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Proceed as directed in the dosing instructions.

If you stop taking Neurobion N forte:
For successful treatment, it is important that you take Neurobion N forte for the entire length of time recommended by your doctor. If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, please ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, Neurobion N forte can have side effects, but these do not necessarily occur in everyone being treated. Significant side effects or signs you should look out for and measures to be taken if you are affected: If you are affected by any of the side effects listed below, stop taking Neurobion N forte and contact your doctor as soon as possible. Very rarely, oral thiamine (vitamin B1) administration can lead to hypersensitivity reactions (breaks into sweat, palpitations (tachycardia), skin reactions with itching and wheals (urticaria)).

The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories:
Very often: more than 1 in 10 treated
Frequently: 1 to 10 treated in 100
Occasionally: 1 to 10 out of 1,000 people treated
Rarely: 1 to 10 out of 10,000 people treated
Very rare: less than 1 in 10,000 people treated
Not known: Frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.

Other possible side effects:
Long-term overdoses of vitamin B6 (more than 2 months at an intake of more than 1g/day) can have nerve-damaging effects. Long-term use (more than 6-12 months) of daily intakes in excess of 50 mg vitamin B6 can cause peripheral sensory neuropathy (paraesthesia primarily in the hands and feet) (see Precautions for use and Warnings).

What countermeasures should be taken, if any?
If side effects occur, stop taking Neurobion N forte and contact your doctor. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This also applies to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, Pharmacovigilance Department, Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee 3, D-53175 Bonn, website: www.bfarm.de. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

Duration of use?
The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease. It should therefore be determined in consultation with your doctor.

overdose?
No signs of overdose of thiamine (vitamin B1) have been reported to date. A long-term overdose of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) can have a nerve-damaging effect. The long-term intake of high doses of vitamin B6 can lead, among other things, to local nervous disorders with paraesthesia and disturbances in movement processes. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

In general, pay attention to a conscientious dosage, especially for infants, small children and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.

A dosage prescribed by the doctor may deviate from the information on the package leaflet. Therefore, since the doctor adjusts them individually, you should use the medicine according to his instructions.

mode of action

How do the ingredients of the drug work?

Pyridoxine (vitamin B6): The active ingredient controls a number of metabolic processes in the body, for example the production of protein components, neurotransmitters such as adrenaline and the production of the red blood pigment. It also affects blood clotting. A pyridoxine deficiency can therefore manifest itself as anemia or damage to nerves, skin or mucous membranes.
Thiamine (vitamin B1): The active ingredient is essential for the functioning of the nervous system and plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism.

Contraindications

What speaks against an application?

- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients

What age group do you need to consider?
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age: The medicine must not be used.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: consult your doctor or pharmacist. He will examine your particular starting position and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.

If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.
